Aisha Memorial School (AMS), Tujereng

  • In Jan 26 GSS trustees agreed to assist this community school which was at risk of failing.
  • The AMS had 75 pupils and we expect pupil numbers to reach close to 140 in October (full capacity). The school is located on the edge of Tujereng in an area where the population is growing rapidly.
  • Total set up cost £22,830. Restoration and improvement £18,500, classroom furniture £2,100, teaching materials £550, playground equipment £1,650. Breakfast ‘porridge’ is being provided at a cost of £1,000 per year.
  • The 3 classrooms were too small and now converted into 2 large ones. Two new classrooms built plus boundary wall, new gate and repainting. All the work was completed on budget and in 6 weeks.
  • The 4 teachers are being trained by our local team through a combination of specialist workshops and ‘on the job’ coaching in their classrooms. The Head Teacher will attend our termly specialist HT workshop.
